DESCRIPTION OF THE STUDIES
Thousands of Polish companies, institutions, corporations, and private entrepreneurs, working in a myriad of fields, liaise with foreign clients every day. This makes specialised translators extremely valuable on the job market.
Our post-graduate programme in Specialised Translation invites everyone who meets the following criteria:
- Is a holder of a language certificate (B2 or higher, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) for one of the following languages: English, German, Russian, Spanish, French, Italian.
- Is a holder of a BA or MA degree, and wants to improve his/her translation skills.
Over the course of two semesters, you will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to work in the fields of medical, legal, economic, or technical translation. We make sure that the knowledge we share is practical, which means that you will learn the legal, economic, EU or technical terminology of the language that interests you. You will learn about translation strategies, the translator’s methodology, and the legal bases of the profession, as well as familiarising yourself with selected aspects of the Polish language.
CAREER AFTER STUDIES
As a graduate of this programme, you will have the skills necessary to:
- Translate texts in your chosen language, from your chosen field.
- Work as a specialised translator.

Maciej Ganczar, PhD
Translator, author of language teaching publications, including the teaching of business and medical English, and business, legal and medical German. Ministry of National Education Expert on foreign language textbooks. A former lecturer at the University College of German Language Teacher Education of the University of Warsaw, the Medical University of Warsaw, and the Department of Specialist Languages of the University of Warsaw, and the Università del Salento w Lecce (Italy).
Currently, Maciej is Studies’ Supervisor of post-graduate philology programmes at the Faculty of Modern Languages of Vistula University, and Director of the Academic Language Centre of the Medical University of Warsaw. Also, he is a member of the Mitteleuropäischer Germanistenverband, and the International Hermann Broch Working Group (Internationaler Arbeitskreis Hermann Broch) in Washington.
The courses are taught by experienced Vistula University lecturers, practitioners with long records of work dealing in sworn and specialised translation, and native translators. The Polish language stylistics course is taught by a brilliant Polish language scholar, literary translator, and long-time editor for reputable publishers.
Vistula University post-graduate admissions are conducted on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis. Post-graduate candidates must, therefore, submit the following documents:
- application form – download,
- 1st or 2nd cycle programme diploma or copy,
- Identity card copy (the original for verification),
- 1 photograph (37×52 mm),
- Advance confirmation of payment.
