Holder of a diploma of electromechanical engineer of the University in Liege, master of science degree of  Cranfield University as well as PhD from University of Liege. For 5 years, he worked as an assistant at University of Liege, in the field of energy production. Next, he joined Cockerill Mechanical Industries, one of the leading world manufacturers of HRSGs for power stations where he held the post of the head pg the R&D Engineering Section.

In the years 1998-2007, he worked in the General Directorate for Research of the European Commission as a specialist for clean coal technology projects and later for the capture and sequestration of CO2.

In the years 2008-2015, he was member of the Advisers Office for European Policy by President of the Commission for energy, climate changes and environment.

In the years 2015-2019, he was responsible for long-term decarbonization paths in the General Directorate for Scientific Research and Innovation of the European Commission.

Pierre Dechamps is now senior adviser in FTI Consulting as well as member of the team for energy and natural resources.

Apart from his role in FTI, he has a number of teaching duties in higher education institutions throughout Europe in the area of energy, climate and sustained development, in particular, at Cranfield University, Ecole des Mines de Paris, IFP School, Sciences Po Paris as well as Vistula University in Warsaw, all of the on the master degree level and/or as part of ongoing professional

  • energy policy, climatic and environmental policy on the EU and global level;
  • economics of energy and climate;
  • EU policy;
  • management of energy projects.
