The Institute of Economic Research AFib Vistula invites you to an open lecture of Dr. Ewa Radomska on "RATING AGENCIES – PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION, MEANING, SOURCES OF CRITICISM" which will take place 18th February 2016 (Thursday) at 16:30 in the room 21 (Senate Hall).

The most influential in the world three US rating agencies – Standard & Poor's (S & P), Fitch and Moody's – are found in recent years in the spotlight. Following the wave of reductions in the ratings, many European politicians and economists are talking about the "curse culture of credit ratings". Usefulness, quality, value assessments, as well as action of credit rating agencies raises controversy. What rating agencies do? What is their role and importance? What are the reasons for a strong market position of the rating agencies? What are the most frequently cited source of criticism and are they justified? What are the ability to "break" the oligopoly of the leading credit rating agencies? An attempt to answer these questions will be the subject of the lecture.
