Due to the still uncertain epidemic situation, as well as the decision by numerous universities to suspend the organisation of conferences, and withhold the permits to participate in them, the Vistula School of Hospitality is postponing the international conference: ‘Tourism in the sustainable development of metropolitan cities’ for 2021.
The organisers decided to postpone the conference with great regret, being aware of the involvement in it of many people, and the plans associated with this event. The meeting was planned as an international forum. Organising it, today, is very difficult, due to disruptions in air transport and the closure of many borders.
The theme of the conference, ‘Tourism in the sustainable development of metropolitan cities’, is particularly important, today. Not only the tourism sector, but also big cities face great threats. Paradoxically, the coronavirus pandemic has highlighted the importance of tourism as a factor in economic development, and confirmed it to be an important component of the quality of life of modern societies.
The effects of a pandemic have been particularly felt by city dwellers, which prompts them to think about how to ensure the sustainable development of tourism in the face of global challenges, using its positive impact on the environment, and minimising threats.
The organisers hope that these extremely important issues will be discussed at the new conference, for which, a date will be announced in early 2021.
