5th Vistula International Film Festival

The fifth edition of the Vistula International Film Festival now is coming up. This inspiring event will take place on Wednesday, January 31st from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Auditorium 2A. You will also be able to follow it on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/uczelniavistula.

Students of Journalism and Social Communication will show 11 short documentaries that were made as part of the Television Workshop conducted by Marcin Antosiewicz.

This year, students will show 11 mini documentaries. The films tell the stories of young artists, people struggling with mental health problems, Ukrainians trying to find their way in the realities of the war, as well as athletes who, against all odds, decide to fight for their careers and future.

3:00 p.m. – 3.05 p.m. –Welcoming remarks

3:05 p.m. – 3:10 p.m. –Introduction of the production team leaders

3:10 p.m. – 3:25p.m.Official opening of the festival by:

  • Prof. Wawrzyniec Konarski, PhD, Rector of Vistula University,
  • Ali Şengul, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Philology and Journalism of Vistula University,
  • Grzegorz Mathea, PhD, Director of the Journalism and Social Communication Education Program

3:25 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. – Screening of 11 festival films in the order of the festival program. Presentation of the production team before each film.

5:.00 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.– Summary of the screened films.

5:15 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. – Conversation with leaders of producer teams.

5:30 p.m. – 5:32 p.m. – Closing of the festival.

Films:

“Voice of Freedom”

The film tells the story of a young Ukrainian girl who in her childhood developed a deep passion for music, and whose world is changed by the war. Faced with the new reality, she decides to use only Ukrainian language to help promote and preserve the music and cultural heritage of her country. The solution seems simple, but she faces real challenges, such as difficulties with writing lyrics and the need to change her artistic style. Despite everything, however, she finds the strength and determination to continue because she believes that the music, she creates can unite people and bring hope that Ukrainian culture will be popularized in all its aspects.

„Mind of Art”

Through this short documentary we can witness the fascinating journey of Dmytro, a passionate Ukrainian immigrant to Poland, into the world of art. Despite the chaos of the war, Dmytro manages to transition from a person leading an average corporate life to a unique art creator. The distinctive blend of abstraction and folk art becomes a reflection of Dima’s world as seen through his eyes. Follow his story as he holds his first exhibition, showcasing the profound power of art against the odds of challenging times.

“For the love of dance”

Boundless love for dance, the strength of the human spirit and the athlete’s path with all its difficulties. The story of ballerina Ludvika is not only an autobiography of an athlete. It is, above all, a story conveying a profound message that every dream may come true if you pursue it with all your heart. Ludvika shares her experiences telling us about her serious injury, many competitions, and her own vision of this difficult but stunningly beautiful sport.

“I’ll never give up”

The film “Никогда не сдамся (I’ll never give in)” is a story of a girl who was forced to quit sports due to an injury but who did not give in. She has changed her lifestyle and continues to live.

Triumph”

The story of a young boy who, in his teenage years, hears a diagnosis that radically changes his perspective on life. Krzysiek has to face a devastating disease twice, which deprives him of the most important years of his youth. It is a document that can teach Krzysiek’s peers to never give in, especially when the stakes are very high as, in this case, life.

“Smoothly to Happiness”

The film tells the story of a young girl from Belarus who moved to Poland in search of a new life. Alone in a foreign country, she has to face difficulties: lack of work, distance from family and friends. Deep in depression for six months, she turns to a psychologist who opens for her the door to health through an unexpected source – a swimming pool. Swimming becomes not only a physical exercise, but also a lifeline for her soul. In this fascinating journey to the world of water, the heroine finds not only the strength to overcome depression, but also work and, finally, happiness. “Smoothly to Happiness” is a story of transformation and self-discovery, it teaches us that even in the most difficult moments we can always find light around us.

“I look with my heart”

The story of Oliwia, who struggled with many difficulties in life and who discovered the cure for them in helping disabled cats.

“Dream Sky”

The painting shows a man who dreamed of becoming a pilot, but due to circumstances he could not fulfill his dream. However, he moved on with his life and found happiness and peace of mind in his family life.

Follow your dreams wherever you are”

The film tells the story of a strong woman, who has lost her job in Belarus and has to start over in Poland. Despite having two diplomas, Victoria is forced to work in the hotel and catering industry, as she did in her youth. She starts her life anew in a foreign country, really from scratch. However, realizing her own capabilities, she decides to change her life. Finally, together with her daughter, they open a cozy cafe with an art gallery, turning their dreams into reality and finding a new taste of freedom.

„Now, I am walking”

This is a documentary film on an emigrant student who initially faced financial hurdles in

Poland, which forced him to sleep at a railway station, while being trapped in a perpetual

struggle period. Despite challenges, he successfully settled, shouldering his sister’s

expenses. Now, he excels in a waiter job while studying at Vistula University. This is about

the journey of a young boy out in the world making his way to life.

„ATILLA: no pains, no gains”

Attila from Baku was a young man with a dream of a new life in Europe. He decided to start with Warsaw, hoping for new opportunities. However, the challenge came unexpectedly – an English exam. Confronted with an unforeseen test, Attila suffered defeat. Nevertheless, it was precisely this setback that opened the doors to unexpected and thrilling possibilities that changed his life forever.
