“CHALLENGES FOR THE GROWTH OF THE POLISH ECONOMY”

Tuesday, 8.11.2022

Vistula University, 3 Stokłosy Str., 02-787 Warsaw

OBJECTIVES AND TOPICS:

Because of changes in the social structure, progress in the marketization of the economy and its opening up to the world, as well as Poland’s accession to the European Union, the last two decades have seen an acceleration of economic growth, a significant overcoming of the country’s civilizational backwardness and a significant increase in social welfare. This has, however, come at a relatively high cost and strain.

In recent years we have seen significant changes in Poland’s socio-economic policies, resulting, inter alia, in a deterioration in the rule of law and democracy, and hardening of relations with the European Union, of which Poland has been a member for almost twenty years. These changes have had various effects on the economy, both positive, such as low unemployment, reduced poverty, and reduced income inequality, and negative, such as a slowdown in investment processes and in the inflow of EU funds, a worsening of the situation of public finances and a significant rise in inflation in Poland.

The question arises as to whether attempts to remodel the economy, socio-political relations, and state institutions do not make significant mistakes affecting socio-political stability, the polarization of society, and, consequently, opportunities for future development. Would it be possible to achieve more without making obvious mistakes?

The conference “Challenges for the Growth of the Polish Economy” will have an interdisciplinary character, allowing representatives of social sciences from all over the country to exchange views. The interdisciplinarity of the conference will be ensured by cooperation with the Research Institute in the discipline of Political Science and Administration and the Research Institute in the discipline of Management Science and Quality. It aims to show the prospects for further socio-economic development of Poland and make comparisons with other countries. It will analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the ongoing systemic and political changes in Poland.
