The library-information system of the Academic Library of the Vistula University Group (former University of Economics and Computer Science in Warsaw) was established on 1 January 1999. The primary task of the system was to facilitate access to information for students and staff of the University. To this end databases were created for collections, including a book collection, a collection of journals and special collections, as an instrument of efficient and effective research work. Library users can also avail themselves of databases available on CD-ROMs and other electronic carriers.
During the 25 years of its existence the library has gathered a book collection of over 100 000 volumes and several hundred press titles.
The catalogues of our collections have been developed with the help of the MAK computer software. They contain descriptions of all the collections held by the Library. The catalogues allow to find the item sought starting from the author, title, subject headword, title word, publishing house or signature.
The inhabitants of Warsaw can make use of our collections free of charge in the reading room of the library.
As a model unit we offer practical placements and trainings for students of the Institute of Information and Book Studies of Warsaw University as well as for the College of Information, Archive Studies and Bookselling.
The Academic Library of VISTULA University Group switched to the MAK+ library system in winter 2013. Since then successive records of the electronic book collection have been prepared so as to adapt them to the requirements of the new system. Simultaneously, new library services have been implemented.
